At the Faculty of Law, the University of Vienna seeks to appoint a

Full Professor
of
Labour Law and Law of Social Security

The position:

The professorship "Labour Law and Law of Social Security" represents the two subjects in all their breadth in research and teaching. Excellent basic research in individual labour law, collective labour law and social security law, each in its national and international dimensions, is expected.

The professorship will be dedicated in particular to researching sustainability issues in a rapidly changing society. If one reduces the University of Vienna's strategic focus on “sustainability” not only to environmental issues, but also includes social organization in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the UN and the sustainability regulations at EU level, labour law and social security law prove to be central to the sustainability of social welfare. The ageing of our society requires solutions in labour and social security law in order to maintain an active workforce that ensures the financing of the contributory social security system. Questions of labour migration, pension law and the non-discriminatory integration of all population groups into the labour market shall be addressed. Globalization, digitalization and changes of the technological basis of production processes are further key parameters that are leading to social changes and a transformation of the labour and social security system. Precarious employment relationships that lie outside the traditional, particularly collective, protection mechanisms of labour law shall be a focus of labour law research. Research in labour law and social security law should also be conducted at the interface with other areas of law, in particular the law of the European Union; this is required not least by the ever-increasing internationalization of labour processes.

The candidate is expected to contribute to teaching in all study programmes offered by the Faculty of Law. In particular, the applicant is expected to be willing to teach courses in the study programme “International Law” in English.
