Three little steps to rolling your eyes

  1. Think of a situation where you raised an equality issue and were met with an eyeroll, not listened to, not taken seriously, were ignored, ...
  2. Be irritated yourself and roll your eyes back at them.
  3. Take a selfie and/or type a statement and share it.

Examples for inspiration

"I encounter rolling eyes when I tell people that I studied Gender Studies: "Do you learn how to gender there?!" For many, the word "gender" on its own is already a red flag and they don't take the things I learned seriously.
It would be important for gender equality & diversity at the University of Vienna that everybody becomes more accepting of mistakes and would understand that it is not about being "correct" per se. When somebody is confronted with exhibiting discriminatory behaviour, it is not about the discriminating person or their mistake. It is about the fact that somebody was hurt. Instead of defending yourself or feeling guilty, you should apologize, thank them for making your aware of the problem and do it differently the next time!"

"I'm surprised again and again how irritated people react when you talk about equality. In the end the goal is to make the world a bit more just - and I have yet to meet somebody who doesn't think that a just world is better than an unjust world. I wish that equality was understood in the way it is meant: not an annoying afterthought but an essential mandate for us all. That is what I'm working for at the University of Vienna."
