At the Faculty of Life Sciences, the University of Vienna seeks to appoint a
Endowed Professor
of
Zoo Conservation Science
(full time, limited to a period of 5 years)
The position:
The successful candidate qualifies by an outstanding and internationally recognized research portfolio in animal behavior and its related fields, with a focus on animal conservation in modern zoological gardens and aquariums and its contribution to international species conservation. The competences of the candidate should complement existing strengths in the Department of Behavioral & Cognitive Biology, at the Faculty of Life Sciences of the University of Vienna. Experience with integrating approaches and bridging between research institutions are highly desirable. Strong commitment to the further development of the discipline Zoo Conservation Science, especially with regard to the long-term management of healthy ex-situ animal-populations, is expected. The successful candidate is expected to participate in the curricula of BSc, MSc and PhD programs of University of Vienna. Although teaching is partly in German, the University of Vienna is committed to expand English teaching.
Your academic profile:
· PhD and post-doctoral experience
· Outstanding research and publication record, with an excellent reputation as an active member in the international academic community (Habilitation (venia docendi) or equivalent international qualification in the relevant field)
· Proven leadership qualities
· Gender and diversity competence
· Experience in designing and managing large and international research projects
· Enthusiasm for excellent teaching and supervision at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral level
· A history of integrating different methodological approaches, experience with bridging between research institutions but also conservation organizations, and a lively interest in studying animals in natural and zoo environments
· Basic German language skills
